introduction to wood turning

I prefer to work one to one to ensure the new turner has a safe and individually tailored experience.  

I will work with more than one person when booked as friends or family.

First section

        

  1. Introduction to woodturning,

  2. health and safety, clothing.

  3. wood description.

  4. Use of the lathe including chuck and live centre.

  5. Use and description of chisels.

  6. Spindle turning hands on with a spindle gouge.

  7. Hands on use of the skew chisel and roughing gouge.

  8. Review all learning so far.

 

Second section

  1. Making items based on learners skill and preference.

  2. Description of bowl blanks.

  3. Creating tenon. Use of face plate.

  4. Mounting the bowl blank.

  5. Use of the bowl gouge.

  6. Making a bowl.

  7. Sanding and finishing Review and recap.
